Head Injuries
Concussion
Closed head injuries are common in contact and collision sports and can create neurological, medical, and psychological consequences. Serious closed head injuries require the recognition and treatment from a qualified health care professional in order to act appropriately. Return to sport should only be considered when a physician has cleared the athlete.
Facial/Nose Fractures
Common facial fractures include the mandible (lower jaw), maxillary (upper jaw), and nasal fractures. A direct blow to the fractured area usually causes fractures. Treatment for fracture is immobilization, cold application, and immediate referral to a physician.
